Adding a Direct Link to Flint in Canvas

Guide for adding a Flint link to Canvas - creating a seamless flow from Canvas to Flint with just one click.

Updated September 11, 2026

While Flint supports Single Sign-On (SSO) via Microsoft and Google, we do not currently offer Canvas-specific SSO integration. However, you can still provide students and teachers with a simple, consistent path to access Flint by adding a direct link to Flint in your Canvas course navigation. Using Canvas's Redirect Tool, this external link will appear as a tab in the course sidebar, giving users one-click access to Flint from within Canvas.

  1. Navigate to Settings: Go to your Canvas course and click on "Settings" in the left-hand navigation.
  2. Access the Apps Tab: Click on the "Apps" tab at the top of the Settings page.
  3. Find the Redirect Tool: In the filter/search box, type "Redirect" and select the Redirect Tool (it looks like a blue arrow icon).
  4. Add the App: Click "+Add App."
  5. Configure the Link:
    • Name: Enter the text you want to appear in the course navigation (e.g., Go to Flint).
    • URL Redirect: Paste the full Flint URL you want to link to.
    • Show in Course Navigation: ✅ Check this box to make the link visible in the course menu.
    • Force open in new tab: ✅ It's recommended to check this so the link opens in a new browser tab.
  6. Add the App: Click "Add App" to save your settings.
  7. Adjust Navigation Order (Optional):
    • Go back to the "Navigation" tab in Settings.
    • Drag and drop your newly added link to the desired position in the course sidebar.
  8. Save Changes: Don't forget to click the "Save" button at the bottom of the page.

Your new Flint link should now appear in the left-hand course navigation. When students or teachers click it, they'll be taken directly to the Flint platform (in a new tab, if selected), creating a simple and consistent workflow from Canvas to Flint.
